Audience member with objects and materials

'Make Work Think Space and False Testimonies' is an installation of objects and materials, associated with an artistic research process. The work specifically addresses the difficulty of communicating experience through artefacts and finished artworks, a problem familiar to archaeologists.

Its main aim is to involve the audience in the process of making and reflecting on works through practical and material engagement. Rather than viewing finished pieces, the audience is invited to physically manipulate materials, mentally develop a relationship with the objects.

The artefact or artwork is no longer the focus of the audiences attention, but part of a process of experiencing and interacting with materials.

Cordula Hansen is a researcher and lecturer in the History and Theory of Art at Waterford Institute of Technology. She is currently completing a practice-based PhD on the relationship between art practice and archaeology.
