Fiona Coffey | Ireland

My studio is surrounded by steep green fields, bordered with ancient hedgerows and tumbled stone walls. I watch the sheep move from The Haggard to The Four Acre, following lines only visible to themselves. I have only moments, fragments of time to capture the spirits of the sheep before they disappear to another field.

I create their forms in clay and horse dung, using ancient technologies known to man thousands of years ago. I cast them in bronze, letting the so-called imperfections of the materials speak for themselves.

These forms are to be played with, arranged, herded, gathered together, scattered - please handle them.
